Fog Light Restoration
Fog lights sit lower than your headlights, which means they eat every rock, bug and road-salt spray the tires kick up.
Gulf Coast Headlights is a mobile headlight restoration service. We come to your home, office, or job site and bring cloudy, yellowed, oxidized lenses back to clear — usually in about an hour.
Snap a photo of your headlights and send it to (251) 321-5430. You’ll get a straight answer back — no pressure, no appointment required to ask.
Why it matters
Gulf Coast sun, salt air, and humidity are hard on headlights. The factory UV coating breaks down, the polycarbonate underneath oxidizes, and what starts as a light haze turns into a yellow film that scatters your beam instead of projecting it down the road.
That means shorter visibility at night, glare in the rain, and a vehicle that looks a decade older than it is. It can also be a problem at inspection or resale time. Restoration fixes all of it for a fraction of what new headlight assemblies cost.
The local problem
Headlight lenses are polycarbonate — a tough, impact-resistant plastic that happens to be badly damaged by ultraviolet light. To get around that, manufacturers spray on a thin UV-blocking hard coat at the factory. Everything about how long your headlights stay clear comes down to how long that coating survives.
South Baldwin County is close to a worst case. We get intense, high-angle sun for most of the year, so the coating absorbs far more UV annually than the same vehicle would in a cooler, cloudier state. Add humidity that keeps a film of moisture on the lens surface, and airborne salt off the Gulf that is chemically aggressive to the coating, and the protective layer starts breaking down years earlier than the brochure would suggest.
Once that coating is gone, the polycarbonate itself is exposed and begins to oxidize. That is the yellowing. It is not dirt, it is not on the inside, and it does not wash off — the surface of the plastic has chemically changed. The only fix is to remove the damaged layer and put new protection over what is underneath.
Most retail kits include an abrasive and a polish, and they genuinely do improve things for a few weeks. The problem is what they leave out. Sanding a lens without properly re-sealing it strips off whatever compromised factory coating was left and exposes bare, unprotected polycarbonate to full Gulf Coast sun.
That bare plastic then oxidizes much faster than the original coated lens ever did. This is why people report their headlights hazing back over worse than before within a month or two — the polish came off, and nothing was protecting the plastic.
The sealing stage is the whole job. Cutting the oxidation is the easy part; applying a UV-stable clear coat that keeps sun off the plastic is what determines whether you are doing this again next summer.
Park facing you at night with the lights on and stand about twenty feet away. A healthy lens gives a crisp, defined cut-off at the top of the beam. A degraded lens glows — the whole lens face lights up evenly because light is scattering inside the damaged surface instead of being projected forward. That glow is light that is not reaching the road.
In daylight, run a finger across the lens. Chalky or slightly rough rather than glassy means the coating is already gone.
What we do
This isn’t a wipe-on kit that hazes back over in a month. It’s a full multi-stage refinish of the lens surface, finished with a UV-stable protective coat.
Fog lights sit lower than your headlights, which means they eat every rock, bug and road-salt spray the tires kick up.
Faded tail lights are the detail that ages a truck more than anything else.
Motorhome headlights are big, expensive, and often close to impossible to source for an older coach.
Work trucks earn their haze.
How it works
Send a clear photo of your headlights to (251) 321-5430, along with your vehicle year, make and model, and where you’re located.
We’ll look at the condition of the lenses and text you back a quote and the times we can be out. No obligation.
Park where it’s convenient and leave the keys with yourself — we work outside the vehicle. Roughly an hour later, they’re clear.
Questions
We’re licensed to work inside the city limits of Foley, Alabama and throughout the unincorporated areas of Baldwin County — county addresses that don’t fall inside another city’s limits.
We are not yet licensed in Baldwin County’s other municipalities, so we can’t take jobs inside those city limits for now. We’re working on expanding. There’s a fuller breakdown on our service area page.
Not sure which side of a city line you’re on? Text us your address and we’ll check it before you commit to anything.
Most vehicles are done in about an hour. Heavily oxidized or oversized lenses (RVs, box trucks) can take longer — we’ll tell you up front when we quote you.
A place to park with a few feet of clearance around the front of the vehicle. Access to power is helpful but not required. You don’t need to hand over your keys or stay with the vehicle.
With the UV sealant applied and normal care, expect a long-lasting clear finish. Vehicles that live outside in full Gulf Coast sun year-round will always weather faster than garage-kept ones.
Restoration corrects surface oxidation, hazing and yellowing on the outside of the lens. Internal moisture, cracks, or a burned-out bulb are separate issues — send a photo and we’ll tell you honestly whether restoration will help.
Yes. Fog lights, tail light lenses, and plastic trim clarity are all fair game. Mention it when you text and we’ll include it in the quote.
Pricing depends on the vehicle and how far the lenses have gone. That’s why we quote from a photo — text one to (251) 321-5430 and you’ll get a real number back, free.
Two headlights, one photo, one text. That’s the whole process to get started.
